Recycling is the law in Miami Beach!
Since 2014, all properties in Miami Beach are required to have a single-stream recycling program in place!
It's important to keep in mind that recycling is a market-based industry. In 2017, China passed the National Sword policy banning certain types of plastic waste and other recyclables from being imported. This has had a huge impact on the industry, meaning that cities must focus on minimizing the number of unwanted materials to ensure that all items sent to recycling facilities are actually recyclable. This means that items that were recyclable in the past may no longer be accepted.
Below is a quick breakdown of how recycling works for each type of property.
Recycling for Single-Family Homes and Multi-Family Residences with Two to Eight Units
Single-family homeowners are automatically enrolled in the city’s single-stream recycling service with a scheduled pick-up on Wednesdays. Those on city service are given blue carts through Miami-Dade County. The carts are serviced by Coastal Waste Services. For questions on this type of service, please contact the Sanitation Division at 305.673.7616.
Recycling for Commercial Properties and Multi-Family Residences with Nine or More Units
Properties with nine units or more are required to contract with a licensed recycling hauler or utilize one of the franchise waste haulers permitted to operate in the city.
